COACH ARTHUR SAYS GOODBYE

Arthur Lee was with the Super Sharks since he was six years old—for 18 years! He wrapped up his swimming career with the Club as Head Coach from 2019-22.

Before Coach Arthur wrote our Club members a farewell email with some of the wisdom gained from all his years in competitive swimming. In it, he said:

“My hope is that families (especially the new ones) will see what a tremendous and positive difference Super Sharks is. It's an unforgettable experience that you won't regret. . .

Parents: Yes, there will be times that your child(ren) does not want to attend practices, but we ask that you push and support them to go to practice. The coaches want to instill into the swimmers that sometimes there is no easy way out and you must tackle the challenge head-on. We want to teach them accountability and self-discipline. So please reassure and support your child(ren) to attend practices and NOT skip out. If swimmers are protected and sheltered from challenges, they will never fully improve and learn from their mistakes.

Swimmers: Don't be afraid of challenges. Swimming is a great opportunity to build determination, resilience, and strength. Nothing is impossible if you have the right mindset. Practices are hard but designed for YOU. The coaches want to see you push past your comfort level and go beyond what you think you are capable of… you’ll be surprised what you can accomplish with a little push.”

Here’s an excerpt from his post on the SUP Instagram account:

“. . .Many have asked me why, after so many years, I continued to come back to summer swimming. It’s difficult to understand for most, and rightly so. Each season is emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting, and demands so many sacrifices. It’s easy to say as a swimmer I return because I love swimming, but that’s not the key point. I stayed for the people and community. It’s the swimmers, the coaches, friendships, and the parent volunteers that make the sport the vibrant community that it is today . . .”

Not only will we miss his swimming knowledge, we’ll miss his talent for photography. Arthur - along with his mom - have taken hundreds of high-quality photos of Super Sharks at swim meets over the years. Many of these photos are on this website!

We’ll miss you, Arthur! Please come back to visit.
