COACH JAINA SCORES SCHOLARSHIP

In August, it was announced that one of our coaches, Jaina Jose, had been chosen to receive a BCSSA scholarship:

BCSSA Regional Prize

  • Awarded to one candidate in each region (ours is Vancouver & District)

  • Must be in grade 12 enrolled into post-secondary

  • Winner shows involvement and dedication as an athlete at a club and regional level

The BCSSA Regional Prize is awarded to one athlete in each of the eight BCSSA regions and goes towards post-secondary tuition. Each recipient has shown high levels of involvement and dedication as an athlete at both club and regional levels.

Jaina says, “Throughout the years I've shown my commitment towards the Vancouver & District region through many hours of volunteering for the Squamish Pirates and Super Sharks. From my early years as a swimmer to becoming a coach for SUP, I became a role model for many swimmers. I was a volunteer coach for Squamish from 2016-2018 and put in more than 200 hours of volunteering and helping new swimmers begin their journeys.

I continue to coach young swimmers with SUP and have seen my swimmers make huge achievements. Swimming has given me many opportunities to show leadership and my commitment towards the sport. While I've had ups and downs within the sport, I have managed to stay motivated and kept going to practice each day.

Thank you to my past coaches and role models for pushing me along, and to friends and my swimmers fork making this experience fun and exciting.”

Congratulations to Jaina on this recognition! SUP thanks you for your efforts and for supporting our younger swimmers.
