SWIM GROUPS

Swimmers are divided into groups based upon ability—not necessarily age. New swimmers are placed in a group based upon their swim assessment and swimming background:

  • GROUP 1: TOP SWIMMERS

Have technique and speed in place after 4+ years of competitive swimming, and are working on improving performance level.

    GROUP 2: EXPERIENCED SWIMMERS

Have all the fundamentals of competitive swimming in place and are working on speed.

    GROUP 3: ABOVE AVERAGE SWIMMERS

Have the basics down, but need refinement. They’re working on technique and speed.

    GROUP 4: AVERAGE SWIMMERS

Have a basic understanding of front crawl and backstroke, but other strokes require work.

    GROUP 5: COMPETENT SWIMMERS

Able to swim lengths on their own. Technique is starting to form.

    GROUP 6: NEWER SWIMMERS

Have an introduction to swimming in place. Able to swim 25 m unassisted but swim lengths with difficulty.

These groups are reassessed at the beginning of each season, and coaches may shift a swimmer up or down mid-season.

EXPECTATIONS

At swim club we don’t only show up and swim laps, we also work on skills such as responsibility, respect, team building, and other life skills. As such, these are the swimmer expectations from our coaches:

  • Or 5 min early. Arriving late for no valid reason shows a lack of commitment and respect towards others in the Club. We care about the success of all swimmers, and we expect our swimmers to do the same.

  • Bring your goggles, cap, towel, change of clothes, water bottle, and anything that you’ll need before/during/after practice.

  • At the Templeton Pool reception desk, let the attendant know that you’re with the Super Sharks in order to be let into the locked pool door. Make sure to say “thank you” when buzzed in!

  • The baby pool at the far end for warm-up before getting into the pool. Swimmers can keep their bags in a designated room while they swim.

  • Towards all team members, coaches, and the public. We are a team and should treat each other as one. In addition, we’re practising in a public facility—we should respect the people and the environment around us to maintain good relations with the public and the pool.

  • Coaches understand that swimmers have lives outside of the pool, and that can change your energy and how they are feeling during practice. The most any of the coaches can ask is that you try your best. It's okay for it to be an “off day” but don’t let that hold you back from putting in the work.
