MEET OUR COACHES

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We’re dedicated to the development of all swimmers while still having fun! Our goal is to help discover each individual’s passion for swimming and help fulfill their potential as a competitive swimmer.

The Super Sharks is committed to the personal growth of each individual in and out of the pool—for life. Many of our swim coaches started with the Club as younger swimmers. We have a tradition of providing the opportunity for dedicated older team members to support the coaching staff as volunteer coaches, and move up into paid junior coach positions when they’ve gained enough experience.

  • Nathan has been a part of Super Sharks Swim Club for nearly 20 years. Through his experience he has gained multiple awards from the Club as well as dozens of BCSSA Meet Records. Nathan's most memorable moment as a swimmer was when he was recruited to the University of Victoria's Varsity Swim Team. Among the four strokes, Nathan's favourite is butterfly as it utilizes all muscles in the body. He believes that with enough persistence, hard work, and dedication that any swimmer may be successful. This season Nathan hopes to bring a new environment for the kids and coaches to learn and have fun! Nathan is also a lifeguard (so say hi if you see him on deck) and an aspiring paramedic who occasionally enjoys weightlifting, swimming, and spending time with family.

  • Hey Super Sharks! I'm happy to be coaching for another season! This will be my 4th year coaching with SUP and my main goals are to help swimmers in developing and improving their fundamentals while creating a fun and supportive environment. I've been involved with swimming since 2012 and have been with Super Sharks since 2019. Prior to moving to Vancouver and joining SUP, I swam with the Squamish Pirates. My best stroke over the years has varied, although by high school I was set on breaststroke. I've been fortunate to earn awards from SUP and Squamish such as Leadership and Most Promising Swimmer. In the summer of 2022, I was awarded the V&D BCSSA Regional Prize which helped pay part of my tuition. Outside of swimming, I'm a first year student studying Computer Systems and Programming at BCIT—AI has also been one of my passions.

  • This is my first year coaching for Super Sharks, however I am no stranger around a pool or water. I started swimming competitively when I was six for Kamloops Classic Swimming. My competitive career was short; yet I am proud that I was able to achieve AAA times by the age of 12 in a couple of events. My favourite stroke is breaststroke. Like many others, I transitioned into lifeguarding and swim instructing. I still lifeguard in the summers and you can find me on the beaches or at the outdoor pools in Vancouver. I have had the pleasure of teaching a range of swimmers in my career, including adult non-swimmers to master swim club. A moment I am proud of is privately coaching an individual for a triathlon and being convinced to register and complete the triathlon myself! Currently I am an elementary school teacher in Richmond, and I have coached a couple of the high schools that I previously worked at. I am excited to get to know the swimmers and to help them build confidence in their swimming abilities, even in the strokes they may not prefer.

  • It is a great pleasure to be back with the Super Sharks. I love coaching and can't wait to help our swimmers develop. I started swimming with the Club in 2009 and enjoyed every minute I spent in the pool. There are many highlights that include Provincial medals and meet records. My most memorable swimming moment was winning High School Provincial Gold in 2019 in Mixed Medley Relay. We broke the Provincial record with a team made up entirely of Super Sharks swimmers! My favourite stroke is breaststroke and my favourite event is 200 IM. Like many other coaches, I am a lifeguard. In my life out of the water, I am a Private Pilot currently finishing my Commercial Pilot Certification. Stop by and say hello anytime!

  • Hello Super Sharks! My name is Ethan Cheung and I am excited to be back with the club that I swam with from 2013–2018. I am a senior at Simon Fraser University and although this will be my first time formally coaching swimming, I have been very fortunate to have coached teams in basketball and volleyball for my high school. My coaching style focuses on high energy and power, so if you hear me somewhere around the pool, don't think that I'm yelling at you! A good memory I have from swimming is qualifying for Provincials in breastroke in 2015, because it was the first time I had qualified. Through my coaching, I hope that I can help every athlete to achieve their goals and to have fun!

  • Maxine has been a part of Super Sharks since age 5 and swam competitively to age 16. She embarked on her coaching career at the Percy Norman Swim Club while also working as a private swim instructor for Propel providing lessons to all ages from 3 to 40. With the restrictions during Covid, Maxine pursued a new career in hairdressing and is now a full time hairdresser in Vancouver but always makes time to coach. She is thrilled to be a part of the Super Sharks team of coaches and to share her technical knowledge and skills to help swimmers achieve their personal goals as well as empowering them to gain confidence in their swimming abilities. Maxine’s coaching philosophy is to encourage improvement in their swimming skills in a fun, safe, and positive environment. She loves working with all ages and levels and looks forward to coaching all the amazing swimmers at SUP.

  • Hi everyone! This will be my first year coaching for Super Sharks but I’ve been swimming with the club since 2010. I’m thrilled to be coaching for a club that I grew up in and looking forward to what is to come. I have made numerous memories with my friends and coaches which makes swimming so important to me. My goal as a coach is to ensure that the swimmers have the technical fundamentals of swimming then adding speed later on and for swimmers to achieve their potential in this sport. A bit about me: my favourite stroke is Breaststroke but my best event is 100 Freestyle. Surprisingly, my unforgettable memories include practices from Hell week and of course swim meets. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a coach and hope to see you at the pool!

  • Hi everybody! This is my first year coaching at Super Sharks and will definitely not be my last. I have been competitive swimming since 2013. However, I first joined Super Sharks in 2014, when I was 9 years old. Currently, I am in my final year of highschool, ready to share my knowledge of swimming with all of the swimmers in Super Sharks. I have earned my fair share of medals and achievements and now I am prepared to enter the next chapter of my swimming career: coaching. I love coaching the younger swimmers and the more the swimmers improve, the more passionate I become. Seeing swimmers constantly improving, really drives me to continue working hard and to keep on supporting the younger swimmers to the best of my ability. I am so excited for this season and I am eager to see what the future holds.

  • Hi everyone! I have been swimming with Super Sharks since 2015. I started out as a volunteer coach in January 2023 and became a junior coach in May of that same year! I completed my Water Safety Instructor course and my Standard First Aid in July 2023 and my National Lifeguard certification July 2024. I also have experience out of the pool as a volunteer soccer coach and have enjoyed playing competitive soccer since 2011. I have qualified for BCSSA and BCSS provincials multiple times, medaling in both!

My goal as a coach is to help the young swimmers develop their skills in the water as well as gain a passion for the sport. I love seeing young swimmers cheer their friends on at practices and swim meets, learning how best to support them out of the water! Some of my favorite Super Shark's memories come from spending time with my friends at swim meets as well as, surprisingly, Hell week practices and activities. My best stroke is Butterfly, but my favorite event is 100 Freestyle. My favorite part of Super Sharks is how, as a small club, we are all super close!

  • Hi everyone!! This is my first year as an assistant coach, but I've been volunteering for the last year and swimming with Super Sharks since I was ten! I just got certified in lifeguarding and I have my water safety instructor course as well. I'm super excited to help coach group five and watch all the new swimmers improve. As a coach, my goals for the juniors are for them to become more confident in the water and to work on basic fundamentals. My favourite stroke is backstroke and some of my favourite memories from Super Sharks are spending time with my friends and coaches at swim meets and Hell Week practices. I'm super thrilled to coach this season and help all swimmers develop their skills!
