GET READY FOR SUMMER SWIMMING 2023
The summer swimming season-AKA competition season-is just around the corner, from May to mid-August. Below is an overview of the key details, however please be sure to read our Swim Meets pages for both swimmers and parents if you’re new to club swimming.
In May training ramps up, and the Super Sharks start competing in swim meets with other BCSSA clubs in our region (Vancouver & District), as well as outside of our region if we choose. This is an exciting time for the entire club—there’s a noticeable shift in energy and effort by all.
Here are the swim meets that our Club is attending in 2023:
Squamish Pirates at Brennan Park, Squamish - May 27-28
North Shore Winter Club Marlins at NSWC - June 24-25
Cruisers & Super Sharks Hootenany at Watermania - July 8-9
Vancouver Vikings July 15-16 at Watermania - July 15-16
Regionals at North Shore Winter Club - Aug 5-6
Provincials in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island - Aug 17-20
One or two other meets may be added. Be sure to watch your email and check our full calendar.
We understand that families have summer plans and won’t be able to attend every meet. However, it’s to your swimmer and the Club’s benefit to attend as many as possible, even if it’s only for one day of the swim meet.
Despite competing in mostly individual events, we attend the meets as a cohesive team and the swimmers bond, forming friendships for life.
The swimmers also experience the reward of all their efforts during the fall/winter season, as well as the more intensive training that we start in May. This season is about achieving personal bests and being in the moment.
About Each Swim Meet
The Club name on each meet designates the host club who runs it entirely with parent volunteers. Each meet has its own style depending on the size, location, and how it’s run, so if you’re new to summer swimming be sure to try a few different meets. Feel free to ask other parents about their experiences at the meets.
We break down what to bring and to expect during the day on the Swim Meets web pages.
Related Events
We run the Swim-a-thon fundraiser on May 7 as a lead-in to the summer season. It tests endurance and is an important fundraiser to help pay for Super Sharks social events and meet supplies.
In July, as is tradition with many BCSSA swim clubs, the coaches run Hell Week which is a blend of fun social events, team building, and extra hard work both in and out of the pool (dryland training). Once we announce the Hell Week dates, be sure to keep that week free for your swimmer as the coaches will plan a range of activities, trips, and a team dinner. The week culminates in a role reversal where the swimmers get to pie the coaches!
If you ask any of the more senior swimmers and coaches, they’ll tell you that their favourite part of swim club is the summer experience.
